The temperatures finally got above freezing today. My plan was to work a shorter day so that I could get to the camper and dump all the tanks and open the shades to let the sunshine in. That didn’t happen for two reasons….
- The state surveyors were here for their final day and they didn’t exit as early as I would have preferred (we can’t leave the facility until they are finished).
- I got to the camper and found the entire thing was flooded with Doodoo water.
My first priority was to try to get the flooding stopped (the guest toilet was running continuously). I had to turn off the water at the pedestal to make it stop. I used blankets and towels to try to soak up all the water, but it was futile. I then realized that I have no water to run the washing machine to wash them. To make it worse, while I was outside inspecting things, I realized that the entire underbelly of the camper was full of the same water. The entire underneath was bulging with the weight of the water that could not escape. My home was no longer habitable.
I was able to arrange for a last minute AirBnB, thank goodness, but I am incredibly overwhelmed. I am sad about my camper that has been my home for almost two years. Call me sentimental, but I love that camper. It has been my shelter and has provided comfort for every new adventure. It is what made every foreign place feel like home despite the new surroundings.
We have contacted our insurance company, but are uncertain what the outcome of that will be. My husband considered pulling it back to Texas, but I’m not sure that is an option. We are sub-zero temperatures again, which means that all the water in the underbelly is frozen. I am concerned that it would all fall apart while being towed down the highway.
In the meantime, Wookie and I are cozy in the little upstairs apartment that I booked for the next 3 nights. I have to carry him everywhere (room to room) because he doesn’t like the floor type and refuses to walk on it. We struggle with this on occasion. He has been like this since he was a puppy (we have never been able to determine the rhyme or reason, it just seems random). I am not certain how long I will stay here. The owners have offered the apartment through next week. I am so grateful for the two people (in a very rural area) that opened their home to share. It is the reason that we will be warm and dry tonight.
