I met my husband in Pagosa Springs this past weekend. It is somewhat of a half-way point for us and we had never been before. We were able to stay in a pet-friendly cabin so that Wookie and Pearl could play (that was the best part). I stepped out of the cabin on the first morning to this view. I had only seen hot air balloons in books/magazines, never in real life. It was unexpected and breathtaking at the same time. I considered it a magnificent gift. I am not brave enough to ride in one, but I sure can appreciate them from afar. If you have never seen them before, I highly recommend adding it to a bucket list.
We were able to visit the hot springs and enjoy their healing properties. They measured up to 112 degrees during our visit, which was incredibly hot! The sulfur odor from the springs was not noticeable to me (maybe r/t recent COVID illness), but my husband grew tired of it before the end of the day. The best part of the visit for me was soaking in the San Juan river. It was a wonderful 48 degrees and very refreshing after sitting in the hot springs. There was a time in my life that I would have glorified in the hot water, but now I prefer the cold.
We were both a little surprised by the commercialism of Pagosa Springs. When looking at online photos of the resort, you would expect it to be located in a quiet, secluded area. That is not the case. It is surrounded by restaurants, shops, traffic, and noise. I can only imagine what it must have been like prior to all of the progress and development. I won’t say that we were disappointed with the experience, but I will say that it did not meet our expectations. Never-the-less, we can check one more “first” off and now say that we have been.
I was able to pick two peppers off of my little plant this week. It has finished it’s works and has produced what it could despite the chaotic journey that it has endured. One of the peppers immediately turned bright red after being plucked. I have heard that when this happens it is an indication of how hot/spicy the pepper is. I will need to do more research on that before attempting to eat it. I would like to know what to expect!
We now have less than 3 weeks left on this assignment. Time is rushing by us now (as things always do at the end). We remain uncertain about where our next assignment will be, but are waiting with anticipation to know where our next adventure will take us.
